The verse preceding this one says, “Only aim at and strive for and seek His kingdom, and all these things shall be supplied to you also.” The things referred to here are the necessities of life, being food, drink, clothes to wear etc… According to Jesus, all these things are already greedily sought after by those who don’t serve God. The pursuit of a better quality of life is on everyone’s agenda. Jesus makes it clear that our Heavenly Father has no problem with us living a better quality of life, in fact He knows it’s what we should have.
The difference is, He has a better way for us to get it! He says that if we seek after and pursue Him and His kingdom’s way of life first, we will be reaching for something far higher than just a good quality of life! His kingdom way of life gives us access to the limitless resources and riches of heaven! Following God and His ways causes us to be supplied with every need, not according to the standard of this world, but according to God’s riches in glory!
Living a life of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost is marked by abundant, overflowing blessing and favour in every area of life! God’s kingdom way of life is a life of faith that always leads to increase. So, reach higher than just your needs being met – set your aim on the God of more than enough – and as you choose to seek Him and His ways above all else – more than enough becomes your portion too!
