Keeping Eyes on Jesus

Jairus had a daughter who had fallen critically ill. He needed a significant miracle to save her life. Jesus had every intention to go to Jairus’ home and see to his need, but the crowds were pressing around Him with great needs of their own. One, in particular, was a woman who had an issue of blood who seemingly came out of nowhere and touched Him – arresting Jesus’ attention. She received her healing, but the delay to get to Jairus’ house proved fatal.

He received word that his daughter had died. We can only imagine the thoughts dominating his mind at that moment. But Jesus knew instinctively, He stopped what He was doing, looked directly into Jairus’ eyes and said, “Don’t be afraid; only believe!” Fear is the destructive force that has the intention to kill our faith and prevent us from seeing the reality of what God has promised. It’s a spirit that will push for our attention, and if we give it the slightest notice, it will assault our minds with doubt and anxiety.

The Word of God is full of strong instructions to refuse fear every time – regardless of circumstances. Jesus told Jairus to not focus on the negative report, but stay intently focused on Him! Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, who is both the Author and Perfecter of your faith! Don’t allow the noise of this world to become louder than His voice. Don’t be afraid; only believe and you will see the Glory of God!
