Choose Life

The Bible reveals that in life, we ultimately have one of two choices to make – a choice for life or a choice for death. Knowing we have the gift of free will, the Lord urges us to, “choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!” This means choosing life today not only affects us individually but also the quality of life for our descendants.

There is a way that leads to life and then there is a way that leads to death. Romans 8:5-6 says those who choose to live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh; but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For, to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. The world says “if it feels good, do it” – irrespective of the outcome. However, choosing life involves making a conscious decision to choose the way that leads to life, by following the instruction of God’s Word and the leading of His Holy Spirit.

In Proverbs 16:25, Solomon said, “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” From today, decide to renew your mind to “whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report” (Philippians 4:8), and let life well up in and through you!
