A Priceless Treasure

Making a verbal declaration of our commitment to the Lord is easy, following through with it is an entirely different thing.  A man came up to Jesus promising to follow Him wherever He went. However, Jesus showed him that there would be a price to pay. Unlike the birds of the air who return to their nests and the foxes who return to their dens for comfort, the Son of Man had no permanent place of comfort to call home. Following Him was not going to be a life of comfort and ease. Jesus wanted him to count the cost before committing. He said whoever loves their parents more than Him is not worthy to be His disciple. However, while the cost of following Him is great, the reward is far greater. Jesus said, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or lands, for my sake and for the gospel, who will not receive a hundredfold now in this time, houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions, and in the age to come eternal life.” The call of God may at first take everything familiar from you, but the benefits and blessing of knowing God and His covenant promises is a priceless treasure.
