Have you ever looked at precise instructions such as this one, and asked yourself, “how can this happen in my life?” Praise God, His Word is full of answers! There’s clear direction answering this question, set out in Psalm 119:9 which says, “How shall a young man cleanse his way? By taking heed and keeping watch [on himself] according to Your word [conforming his life to it].” In other words, it’s educating ourselves in the ways of God, from studying His Word that’s going to keep us from evil! Why? Because then, those things that are contrary to His ways, with the help of the Holy Spirit, will be easy to detect. This works exactly the same when it comes to recognising real, solid truth from relative or subjective “truth”. If we are going to stay on the cutting edge of God’s will, we must diligently keep watch over our thoughts, the things we say, and the things we do. We must make sure they line up with God’s ways. This can only happen when we have purposed to know what His Word says and apply its timeless wisdom to our lives. That’s how we refuse to yield to temptation and stay well clear of evil!
