Anointed for Purpose

Directly translated, the word anoint means to rub or smear oil, or perfume upon an individual.  In both the Old and New Testaments, this oil would represent the Presence of the Holy Spirit.  When the priests or kings were appointed by God, they would be anointed with oil, symbolising God’s Presence being poured upon them, enabling and empowering, and setting them apart for the Devine purpose they were called to function in. In Luke 4:18, Jesus was declaring that the power of the Holy Spirit upon His life was what would empower Him to perform what He was purposed to do on the earth. The truth is if Jesus needed the anointing of God to fulfil His purpose, then we undoubtably need it too. The anointing is the empowerment of the Holy Spirit, and the defining mark of God upon a believer. When we operate under the anointing of God, we work with God. His supernatural power accompanies our faith and efforts resulting in supernatural results that affirm we are sent by God to fulfil His purpose. If you have been baptised in the Holy Spirit, with the evidence of speaking in tongues, and choose to remain saturated in His power, then you are anointed and filled with the power of God to do His will. Today, allow the Lord to fill you afresh with His anointing oil. Listen to Him speak to your heart, and as you obey  – signs and wonders will follow.
