After a night in jail, Peter and John were brought before the religious rulers and teachers of the law. They had been arrested for teaching and preaching the Gospel, which had resulted in many Jews receiving Christ as their Saviour. But now, their audience was not an eager crowd, ready to hear about Jesus. Instead, they were prominent, learned men, who strongly opposed any teachings concerning Jesus. These religious rulers were confident they had finally rooted out any evidence or belief in Jesus when they saw Him crucified. Yet these ordinary men, Peter and John, filled with the Holy Spirit, were performing great exploits in the name of Jesus! This both amazed and infuriated them. It was undeniable, these uneducated men were speaking the truth with such courage, conviction and power – it had to come from them personally knowing and being with Jesus. Just the same, people will recognize we have been in the Presence of Jesus when we spend time in His Word and prayer, encountering His Presence. That same confidence and power that poured out of Peter and John, will be evident in us too.
