About 300 years ago (1719), Isaac Watts wrote the song “Joy to the World”. It’s certainly a favourite hymn among Christians worldwide and is especially popular around Christmas time. It reminds us that Jesus is the true reason for us being joyful. The Bible declares God loved us so much, that He gave us His one and only Son – Jesus. This same Jesus stripped Himself of all deity and power to become one of us. He humbled Himself in this way to demonstrate the true heart and good nature of His Father. He was a perfect example of how we can live in continuous fellowship with our Heavenly Father. He showed us how a life filled with, and controlled by, His Holy Spirit would lead to His love and power being released to destroy the work of the devil. A kingdom of God’s way of life – filled with righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost – He displayed before us, showing us how to walk in it. There is no greater gift or reason for joy than this!
