For many Christians, Christmas time is spent being caught up in the hustle and bustle of chores, shopping, and preparations for celebrating the season together with loved ones. Everything has to be just perfect for when the guests arrive. In the Bible, there are a couple of accounts involving Jesus being the guest at someone’s home. There’s the time Mary and Martha entertained the Lord. Martha was so concerned with putting up an appearance and giving Jesus her best, she neglected the most important goal: enjoying His company. In the story of Zacchaeus, however, we find he had no time to adequately prepare for his guest, and yet his visit with Jesus changed his life forever! During the season of Christmas, we can get so busy preparing that we neglect the One Who is the most important of all. We become so carried away with all the activities and festivities, and miss out on truly connecting with the One Who is the center of and the very reason for the season. This Christmas, decide to prioritize spending time enjoying the Presence of your Saviour. Let His peace and joy be what lights up the atmosphere – wherever you spend time celebrating!
