Self-Control

A definition for this remarkable fruit of the Spirit, self-control, is to have dominion from within. As born-again children of God, the strength that sustains us from inside our spirits is the power of the Holy Ghost, at work within us. Which, incidentally, is the biblical definition for every fruit of the Spirit. As we submit ourselves to the will of God; obeying and allowing Him to transform us, He empowers our spirits in the process, giving them dominion over our thoughts, emotions, will, and physical bodies. Galatians 5:16 says, “But I say, walk and live [habitually] in the [Holy] Spirit [responsive to and controlled and guided by the Spirit]; then you will certainly not gratify the cravings and desires of the flesh (of human nature without God).” His empowerment strengthens us to refuse the temptation to quit under pressure and do His perfect will! Philippians 2:13 says, “[Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energising and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.” So yield to the Holy Spirit today and let the fruit of self-control demonstrate its power in you.
