Skilled at Overcoming

Every Christian who is living for the Lord, faces the reality of supernatural conflict.  Even though we were translated out of the devil’s kingdom, we live in a world that is over-run with his cohorts and their evil influence.  In reality, in the unseen world, there is a constant clash of kingdoms.  If we are living full of God’s light and life – we will soon understand that we are a very real threat to our enemy, the devil. What’s important to realise, is that nowhere in the New Testament does it ever refer to Christians dealing with the devil on the defensive, but rather on the offensive. We should not have the attitude of waiting for the enemy to attack, so that we can counter his attack.  We should wake up every day knowing that just by keeping ourselves full of God’s Word, and being prayed up in the Holy Spirit, and having sweet, intimate fellowship with the Lord – we are a living nightmare to the devil.  That’s because spending quality time with the Lord this way, keeps us in tune with His intentions, sensitive to His voice, and obedient to His will.  Every intentional thought, word, and action that is influenced by the Holy Spirit puts a halt on the devil’s work, and brings havoc to his kingdom. In 1 Timothy 1:18-19 Paul explained this responsibility to Timothy: “Timothy, my son, here are my instructions for you, based on the prophetic words spoken about you earlier. May they help you fight well in the Lord’s battles. Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.” Then again, in 2 Timothy 2:3-4, Paul makes it clear to Timothy that being a good soldier of the Lord Jesus Christ requires us to live in a way that pleases Him. We are not to become distracted and entangled in the affairs of the life that we were saved out of, and redeemed from.  As you remain steadfast in faith, and attentive to the indwelling presence of the Holy Spirit – you will be that good soldier, full of faith, and skilled at living the overcoming life Jesus called you to.
