Dominion is Our Inheritance

Genesis 1:28 clearly states having dominion as God’s original intention for mankind. Psalm 8:6 says, “You have made him (man) to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,”. Here having dominion refers not only to our responsibility to take care of and be good stewards of the works of God’s hands; but it also refers to the authority we have to speak to things and command them to align with the will of God, through our words of faith (Matthew 18:18). The phrase, “putting all things under his feet”, refers to authority we have over the devil. It’s the same phrase used in Ephesians 1:22. Through the finished work of the cross, Jesus took back the authority that was handed to the devil through Adam’s sin. Now, as part of our inheritance in Christ Jesus, we have dominion in the form of authority over the devil and every evil principality under his power (Luke 10:19). Another area of our dominion is concerning the angels. We are told we have the authority to commission angels to carry out instructions based on our needs. Hebrews 1:14 says, “Are they not all ministering spirits sent forth to minister for those who will inherit salvation?” One of the most effective ways to exercise dominion is through praise and worship. Psalm 8:2 says, “Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants you have ordained strength, because of Your enemies, that You may silence the enemy and the avenger.” That strength is translated as praise. When Israel faced a coalition of enemies, God instructed King Jehosophat to send his praise and worship team out first. They declared the goodness of God and His faithfulness to His people, based on the truth of His Word. That was enough to silence the coalition and seal their defeat. The songs of praise confused the enemy and they turned against each other. Know today that having dominion over things, angels, and the enemy is your inheritance – so exercise it with your words of faith-filled praise and have God’s kingdom advanced everywhere you go.
