The Victory Road

Renewing the mind is our lifelong assignment, as children of God, and we never get to the point where we stop doing it. As members of the household of Faith, this is what is expected of us as our reasonable service to the Lord (Romans 12:1). That phrase reasonable service implies it’s the sensible and practical way to live out our Christian faith. Renewing the mind involves taking God’s thoughts and mind-set and making it our own. Romans 12:2 says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT).  Since all scripture is God breathed, it has all the supernatural life, peace and power within it to answer every need, and bring God’s perfect will to pass in our lives. Our responsibility is to diligently meditate on God’s Word, and to continuously hear its truth spoken from our mouths. This causes the supernatural force of faith to flow from within our re-born spirit and influence every area of our lives. Thoughts of faith produce words of faith, and our lives walk in and follow after whatever those words of faith proclaim! So how do we know if our minds are being renewed? We listen to what we are saying. If we speak words of worry or doubt – it’s a good indication that we have been listening to the wrong thoughts. Our immediate recourse should be to increase our intake of God’s Word, so that it becomes the dominating voice inside us.  Jesus and Paul said God’s Word has the power to wash over our minds and cleanse us from every thought that opposes God’s thoughts (John 17:17, Ephesians 5:26).  The ESV of Romans 8:8 says, “For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.” When our thoughts are in agreement with God’s Word, they are not only renewed to think like God thinks, but they are also purified from thoughts that are intended to lead us into destruction. Stay strong on the Victory Road by having a disciplined thought life where renewing your mind leads you to a life that is completely transformed and aligned with the good life God has already planned for you to walk in.
