Trust in the Lord

More often than not, our natural inclination is to depend on people around us. Whether it’s our employer, our spouse, a family member or good friend – people tend to place their trust in each other. Depending on one-another is not wrong in itself – we are supposed to help and take care of each other as much as we can. However, when we begin to see people as our source, we move into the arena of misplaced trust. Psalms 118:8 says, “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” There will be times where circumstances make it impossible for mere man to do anything to help us in our time of need. However, with God, NOTHING is impossible! Mark 10:27 says, “…With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God.” The children of Israel discovered this truth time and again. After they were miraculously and dramatically delivered out of the land of Egypt, they faced an impossible situation. Their cruel and angry captors, in their mighty war chariots and strong horses, came to recapture them. There was nowhere for the Israelites to go, except the Red Sea. “And Moses said to the people, ‘Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace.” (Exodus 14:13-14). Hallelujah! The sea opened up and the people walked across safely on dry ground! And when the Egyptian army came after them, the sea closed over them, and they drowned. God did the impossible to rescue His people. There is a sure way to position ourselves, in a place where we can fully trust the Lord to do the impossible for us too. Psalm 112:1 & 7 explains that the man who reverentially fears the Lord and delights in His commandments, “…shall not be afraid of evil tidings; his heart is firmly fixed, trusting (leaning on and being confident) in the Lord.” As you give the Lord first place in your life and willingly obey His principles – you will never have to fear any impossible situation again, because the God of the impossible will make a way of victory for you!
