Turn a Deaf Ear

David records that his enemies insulted him and sent false accusations his way. They actively sought to harm him. Yet the Word of the Lord says he turned a deaf ear to all their threats and accusations. Instead of retaliating, he became silent. Why? Because he knew his God would fight for him. He knew the Lord would deliver him out of the hand of his enemies. Instead of avenging himself, he waited upon the Lord. The Bible tells us that we are to wait upon the Lord and He will exalt us, while we see the wicked cut off (Psalm 37:34). In other words, we shouldn’t take matters into our own hands to vindicate ourselves, but rather roll our concerns onto the Lord, because He cares for us. He will comfort, encourage and strengthen us with His joy, and flood our minds with His peace. Then, while we are focused on His goodness, our enemies will set a trap for themselves to fall into. Just as David turned a deaf ear to the threats of those seeking his life and he remained silent before them, we too should turn a deaf ear and keep silent when we are insulted or wrongly accused, or receive threats while standing for righteousness. As we do, the God of peace will establish us and protect us from every plot and plan of the enemy.
