“What is the greatest commandment?” This was a question posed to Jesus by a Pharisee intending to catch Him out. But Jesus didn’t miss a beat. His answer echoed the words of Jeremiah the prophet that said God’s people must seek Him with all their hearts, in order to find and know Him.
Now, thanks to the finished work of the cross, this privilege of wholeheartedly knowing and loving God is extended to all who accept Jesus as personal Lord and Saviour. The Holy Spirit takes residence in us, promises to stick closer than a brother, and pours the perfect love of God into our hearts. Then He teaches us how to embrace and respond to that love as we should.
The responsibility of forming a true, deep relationship with Him doesn’t lie solely upon His shoulders though. We have to be intentional to remain aware of His Presence inside us, and respond with obedience to His lead. Today, determine to become aware of His Presence, with all your heart, and enter into that secret place where you can draw strength and wisdom from His love and power.
