During the time the Apostle John was writing this message to the Church, there was much confusion regarding their position in Christ. There were many false teachers bringing false doctrines, much like there is today! However, John was reminding them of who they were and what they had received through their new-birth and new-covenant in Christ Jesus. All of which centres on the love of God for us. Let’s never forget that God sent Jesus because He loves us (John 3:16). The love of God is so powerful, it gives us access to boldly and fearlessly approach His throne of grace to receive mercy and obtain supernatural empowerment, in our time of need where the temptation to sin seems to overpower us, to be just like Jesus and overcome! The enemy’s tactic is to deceive us into thinking and behaving like our old, sinful nature did. But that old-nature doesn’t exist anymore. We are a completely new-creation in Christ Jesus! God has placed His Own Spirit inside us and pours His love into our hearts, giving us the confidence to recognise who we are in Him, and the boldness to stand up to every deception of the enemy and live free from sin. As we remain in union and communion with the Holy Spirit, God’s love is made perfect in us, and we have the boldness to take Him at His Word, to believe what He says about us, and to live holy, blameless lives before Him. This is what activates our faith to see and partake of the goodness of God in our lives! You have received this boldness through His love. Believe what He says about you, and let His love empower you to become all He has made you to be!
