Being and Doing Good

The 2nd chapter of James teaches that the evidence of a sincere relationship with the Lord is a life-style of being good and doing good to others. Instead of making good works the goal, James insists that our love for and personal surrender to Jesus is what we must focus on. Being in love with Jesus causes us to genuinely love others unconditionally. We naturally display that love by the way we treat them.  Showing mercy and kindness to all people, without prejudice is  evidence of our relationship with the Lord. In James 2:13 it says that this kind of evidence ensures that when we stand before Him to give account, the mercy and kindness we extended to others will cause God’s Own mercy to exult victoriously over our judgement! That’s how important it is to obey the law of love Jesus has given us to live by. In truth, it’s actually impossible to fulfil the requirements of walking in love without the supernatural intervention of the Holy Spirit, and our daily surrender to Him.  We can’t love and show mercy sufficiently without continuously receiving His love and mercy for ourselves and others first. That’s why we must priorities spending time in His Presence, the place where love and mercy abound. Be deliberate in opening your heart to the work of the Holy Spirit inside you throughout the day, so  your life-style of being good to others will show the sincerity of your relationship with Him.
