Believe in His Name

There is significant meaning in a name.  Even though this portion of scripture was written for the people of Israel who, since the covenant God made with Abraham, were and still are eternally His; it relates to every born-again believer too.  Galatians 3:14 ensures us that we have become partakers in the covenant blessing of Abraham, not through heritage, but through faith in Jesus Christ! Hebrews 8:6 says that because we have believed in Jesus, we have entered into a better covenant, established on better promises. Part of our covenant blessing is that we have been given His Name (John 1:12-13, Mark 16:17-18, John 16:23).  The deep-rooted tie with a name is a RELATIONSHIP. A name implies a bond, a connection, a belonging, and an ownership. God Himself said, “I have called you by name; you are Mine.” One would do well to research and meditate upon all the names of God used throughout Scripture. Not only do the various names reveal the different dimensions of His character, but they also point to His desire for relationship with us. The names of God thread through the Old Testament to the New where they are complemented and fulfilled in Jesus Christ. Think about this for a moment: The One who created us for His pleasure is graciously good and mercifully magnificent! He purposefully pursues us and provides for us. He is our good shepherd, our banner, our healer, our righteousness, and our peace. He redeems, sanctifies, crowns us with loving kindness and tender mercies and satisfies us! All of His benefits, accomplishments, power, and glory are contained in His Name! Whether we look up at the stars or gaze over the ocean, creation whispers His Name. When we worship, we join angels declaring His Name. As we walk by faith, daily doing the necessary and the mundane, the challenging and the rewarding, we do it in His Name. Rejoice in the relationship you have been given full access to enjoy as you believe in His Name!
