Bright and Morning Star

The Book of Revelation describes Jesus as the Bright and Morning Star, in fact Jesus refers to Himself as such. When the wise men came to Jerusalem from the East, they asked where the King of the Jews had been born. They reported to have seen “His star” in the East. In the Book of Numbers, the Bible records that the king of Moab hired Balaam, a powerful sorcerer at the time, to curse the Israelites. However, instead of cursing them he ended up blessing them bountifully! During this time Balaam prophesied concerning the Messiah: “I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; a Star shall come out of Jacob; a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and batter the brow of Moab, and destroy all the sons of tumult.” The Star and Sceptre Balaam saw was Jesus! As we celebrate Christmas, and see the stars atop the Christmas trees and in the beautifully displayed nativity sets, we are reminded not just of the star in the East proclaiming the birth of the King of the Jews, but of the reality of our Saviour and Lord – Jesus Christ, the true Bright and Morning Star, who was born to take away the sin of the world, so that we could become the righteousness of God in Him!  Let the light of Jesus in you shine brightly today!
