The Bible tells us that the person who is generous in their giving will always be provided for, and through their generosity will increase all the more! That means the level of generosity they reached in their giving immediately increased their capacity to give again! In other words, their generosity made way for more provision to come into their lives. The same verse that gives this promise of increase through generous giving, mentions what happens when we give without generosity in our hearts. Notice, it doesn’t say anything about those who don’t give. In fact, it speaks of two different kinds of givers: Those who give generously, and those who who withhold more than is appropriate, or due. In other words, those who knew in their hearts what they should give, yet chose to withhold the full amount. This lack of generosity only results in want. For the most part, people hold back on their giving when times are financially tough, out of fear that their giving will result in lack. However, lack doesn’t come from money we don’t have – it comes from money we do have that we should not be keeping to ourselves (Mark Hankins). In the kingdom of God, His way to bring increase to us is through our generosity! Our generous giving, even in tough times, will open the door for God’s abundance in our lives. It will get us out of debt and release a flow of supernatural resources into our lives that will enrich ourselves, as we enrich His kingdom!
