The Bible makes it clear that the love of God is central to anything to do with Him and His kingdom! It was His love that motivated Him to give the life of His Son for our redemption. It is His love that causes our faith to operate and it’s His love that drives out fear and never fails. 1 Corinthians 8:2 explains how we can never know or experience anything of spiritual significance outside of knowing the love of God: “If anyone imagines that he has come to know and understand much [of divine things, without love], he does not yet perceive and recognize and understand as strongly and clearly, nor has he become as intimately acquainted with anything as he ought or as is necessary.” Without knowing God’s love every noble or righteous thought, word or deed is simply a form of religion. 2 Timothy 3:5 says religion may seem right, but it rejects the power that can make us godly. Without God’s love living in us, at work inside us, and pouring to others through us – we are religious and of no significance to God’s kingdom. Praise God for His Holy Spirit! Romans 5:5 says, “Such hope never disappoints or deludes or shames us, for God’s love has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit Who has been given to us.” Opening our hearts to be filled with the powerful love of God is what will fuel our faith and passion for Him and His kingdom work! There is no commodity more valuable for a believer! In the book of Revelation, Jesus speaks sternly to the church that cannot be faulted on any account of usefulness and effectiveness – except for one thing – they had lost their first love for Him. This one thing disqualified them from receiving His kingdom. Heed this warning well – there is nothing more important to God than you and I experiencing and living in His love, and the evidence of His love living full in us is our gratitude and willingness to do His will (John 14:15). Prove you are owned by God – live in His love!
