The grace of God is His supernatural empowerment to overcome sin! Because of the finished work of the cross, sin has lost its power over every new-creation in Christ Jesus! The law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus has made us free from being a slave to sin which results in death (Romans 8:2). Praise the Lord! Now we aren’t sinners who are struggling to overcome sin, we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:22)! The Bible says we have been given a new nature in Christ. The Holy Spirit posses our spirit-man and His abundant life flows in and up from that place inside us (1 Corinthians 6:19, John 7:38). The more we surrender our thoughts and emotions, and will to the Holy Spirit, the more His life begins to flow inside us. As this flow of abundant life begins to dominate our minds, we are able to distinguish which thoughts are of the spirit of life, and which carry the spirit of sin and death. The Bible tells us to immediately take captive every thought and imagination that carries the wrong spirit and cast it down, bringing it into submission to the Lordship of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5). That means we refuse to dwell on that thought and replace it with one that is based on the life and truth of God’s word! This way we don’t give the devil any place in our lives to lure us into sin. When we get up every morning we can do what Romans 13:14 says, we can put on the Lord Jesus Christ and make no provision for the flesh to fulfil its lusts because God’s supernatural grace is at work in us – making and keeping us free from sin!
