In Matthew 17 we read of three disciples and Jesus returning from the mountain to find the remaining disciples in a hot dispute with Jewish scribes. The disciples tried to expel a dangerous demon that was victimising a young boy, but the demon would not obey them. When the disciples asked Jesus why they couldn’t cast it out, He told them it was their lack of faith. He explained that to do the work of God, they need to have absolute faith and trust in Him. We must remember that faith to operate in the power of God, in this case, to drive out demon spirits, works powerfully in the context of our relationship with Him. Once we’ve committed our lives to His Lordship, we begin to partner with Him. We learn how to confidently trust and obey Him. As our faith grows, so does our capacity to hold and operate in His supernatural strength and power. The more we surrender to the fresh infilling of the Holy Spirt, and have His Word build faith inside us, we line up our thinking and behaviour with His, and confidently follow His lead, in faith, to see people set free!
