Flee Sexual Immorality

Throughout the pages of Scripture, we are warned about the devastating consequences of an immoral lifestyle. Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, lost his birthright because he slept with his father’s concubine (1 Chronicles 5:1). In one day, twenty-three thousand Israelites fell in the wilderness when they committed sexual immorality with the Moabite women (1 Corinthians 10:8). When David committed adultery with Bathsheba, his son died and later one of his other sons tried to usurp his throne. Unlike other sins, when a Believer commits sexual immorality, they sin against their own body. Why? Because 1 Corinthians 6:17-20 tells us that the moment we accept Jesus Christ as Lord and Saviour, our bodies are no longer our own. We have been bought with a price – the blood of Jesus! The Holy Spirit, Himself, has taken residency in our re-created spirits, we now belong exclusively to God – our spirit-man, soul and body are His! Hallelujah! Which is why we are told to live and conduct ourselves in a holy manor – just as Jesus did – because we are His!  Praise God – we are well able to do this because the Holy Spirit, Who is continuously at work within us, empowers us to do so! (2 Peter 1:4) We are no longer slaves to sin – it’s power over us is broken! We have the victory over it!  We must flee from even the appearance of evil because sexual immorality is dependent on and driven by a sin enticing atmosphere.  When we expose our natural senses to that atmosphere of sin it can easily overpower our natural, carnal nature and lure us into its destructive vices. If you choose to not flee from the temptation, you will succumb to it and be ensnared by it! The consequences are NOT worth it. Jesus said the sexually immoral will have their place in the Lake of Fire (Revelation 21:8). Today, lay aside every weight and sin which so easily ensnares you and run the race that is set before you with endurance, so you can live and be free!
