God’s Forgiveness Runs Deep

In the Old Testament, David and Bathsheba committed a sin that would shape their entire lives as they faced its consequences. The striking part about their story is not so much the sin that they committed (2 Samuel 11:3-5), but God’s ability to work everything out for their good and for His glory. Sin always has one consequence attached to it – death (Romans 6:23). Although they suffered the death of their firstborn (2 Samuel 12:13), Bathsheba gave birth to a son that would be anointed as the next King of Israel. The very thing that the enemy had meant for their evil God used to His advantage. Bathsheba’s son, Solomon, was crowned King (1 Kings 1:32-34) and will continue to go down in history for the wisdom and wealth God poured into his life during his reign. This should give the believer hope to not be entrapped by his mistakes. We serve a gracious Father who forgives us of all our sins when we repent. Then after we repent, we move forward, with no condemnation and empowered by His grace to walk according to the Spirit and not the flesh (Romans 8:1).  As grace abounds in us, it empowers us to live above the grip of sin, and all the evil that was intended for our harm will be turned for good as we love God, obey His word and carry out His purpose for our lives (Romans 8:28). God’s forgiveness runs deeper than we could ever imagine. Don’t be held back by your mistakes, repent and receive the grace to live righteously before God in overwhelming victory over sin.
