Good Roots Produce Good Fruit

The quality of the root will always affect the quality of the fruit. The root system of any plant sustains the growth and health of the plant, its branches and its fruit. When we liken thoughts that we agree with as seeds that have begun to establish and root themselves into our belief system, we can easily understand how certain mindsets produce character traits, or fruit in our lives.  For instance, when we become disappointed or offended, and we hold onto those offences, refusing to forgive and let go of the wrong done to us, or others – a root of bitterness begins to grow into our souls.  The stronger this bitterness of heart grows, the more abundant the fruit of bitterness begins to manifest itself in our lives. The trouble with this kind of fruit is that it is extremely destructive, bringing trouble and torment, not just to the person harbouring it, but to anyone who gets to know them (Hebrews 12:15).  Even when we think we have these negative mindsets under control – we really don’t.  They have a nature all of their own, from the kingdom of darkness, and unless they are taken captive and brought under the submission of Jesus Christ – they will destroy us (2 Corinthians 10:5). Paul told the church at Rome, “do not boast against the branches. But if you do boast, remember that you do not support the root, but the root supports you” (Romans 11:18).  It’s essential for us to pay attention to establishing the correct thought processes inside us. Thoughts that will root themselves and produce good, lasting fruit in our lives.  Meditate on God’s Word each day and your life will soon produce fruit that takes after the kingdom of light bringing life, peace and prosperity into every area.
