He Brings the Overflow

When Moses appointed leaders to assist him in bearing the burden of the congregation, he chose men that hated covetousness. Not those who disliked covetousness, but those who hated it! Jesus taught that the meaning and worth of life doesn’t amount to the possessions we have (Luke 12:15). In fact, greed for more actually takes away from life (Proverbs 1:19). Covetousness will cause a person to fall into all sorts of harm and foolish lusts. When Ahab coveted the vineyard of Naboth, he murdered him! Because of covetousness, David slept with another man’s wife and had him killed! Covetousness has no place in the life of a believer. True contentment comes from abiding in Jesus, keeping His Word alive in our hearts, and obeying what He leads us to do. As a result, He causes supernatural increase and blessing to flow into every area of our lives – so much so that we get to bless others with the overflow! That’s the covenant blessing God gave to Abraham!  God blessed Him with great wealth and increase and through him all the nations of the world are blessed when they come into the same covenant relationship! In fact, through Jesus, we have an even better covenant, with better promises! Instead of pursuing things, we are to pursue a deep, meaningful relationship with Jesus – and everything we need will be added to us, besides! Hallelujah! That word besides refers to more than just our needs – it includes an overflow of blessing we didn’t even ask for! Delight yourself in the Lord today, and He will give you the desires of your heart!
