For the children of God, living in this final hour before the return of Jesus, our hunger for the things of God needs to be one of our greatest priorities! A deep, serious and continual desire to cultivate our relationship with the Holy Spirit and the Word, keeps us in a place of being satisfied and overflowing with His love and power. Spiritual things will satisfy spiritual hunger. Nothing in the world will be able to satisfy this desire, only the things of God. Just as a fire needs wood to keep it burning, God’s Word, revealed to us through His Holy Spirit, keeps the spiritual fire burning in our hearts. When we keep that fire burning, we will never fall into complacency, or a place where we no longer desire to know and experience more of what God has already done for us. Our hunger, or fierce desire for the things of God causes our attention to be fixed on the things of the spirit instead of the things of the flesh. We begin to focus on and live in the reality of the eternal life that wells up from within our spirits. God’s desires become our desires and doing His will becomes our pleasure and delight – because we have learnt to rely on His strength and ability to do all things! Determine to pursue a life of the spirit and you will experience what the Bible calls the higher life – where you release the reality of Heaven on this earth!
