Identify with the Word

This world is filled with people who are trying desperately to ‘find themselves’.  The market is saturated with ‘self-discovery’ materials and courses. ‘Life-coaching’ has become a booming occupation, offering people some sort of clarity on who they are, so they can be steered in the right direction for their lives. The truth is, as children of God, there is only one place we will receive our true identity and purpose – the Word of God.  The Bible says before Jesus came to this earth, He emptied Himself of His deity power, and in humility, studied the scriptures to find out who He was and what His purpose was.  Of course He knew inherently that He was the Son of God – but from the age of about 11 or 12, He spent much of His time in the synagogues, studying the scriptures and learning from the men who who had studied them too.  Then the day came where He was handed the book of Isaiah, and as He read, He discovered exactly who He was, and what purpose He was to fulfil: “The Spirit of the Lord [is] upon Me, because He has anointed Me [the Anointed One, the Messiah] to preach the good news (the Gospel) to the poor; He has sent Me to announce release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth as delivered those who are oppressed [who are downtrodden, bruised, crushed, and broken down by calamity],…”(Luke 4:18). As you spend time in God’s Word, the Holy Spirit will reveal everything you need to know about who you are in Christ, and the purpose He created you to fulfil by His power that is at work in and through you.
