Immanuel – God with Us

In the book of Timothy, Paul writes that God was made manifest in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16), and in the book of Hebrews, it says that Jesus is the express image of God (Hebrews 1:3). The phrase “express image” in the Greek denotes exact likeness, or being identical to the original copy of something. Just as the impression of a seal is identical to the stamp used to create the impression, so too is Jesus identical to the Father. This certainly rings true when Jesus said whoever has seen Him has seen the Father. The Bible tells us that during His time on earth, Jesus did the works He saw His Father do, He loved people and did good to them wherever He went, just as it was in His Father’s character to do. When we celebrate Christmas, we are celebrating the day that Immanuel – God with us – was born. He is the express image – the exact replica – of the Father. Christmas should be a time where we thank the Lord for sending His only Son into the world, so that we could see the heart and character of our Heavenly Father being demonstrated through His life. Jesus said many prophets and righteous men desired to see and hear the things that those who saw and knew Jesus were able to witness Him do (Matthew 13:17). Now, we don’t just get to read about the Person of Jesus and the character of God – we have His very Own Spirit dwelling inside us! Immanuel is God with us – in absolute reality! Celebrate Christmas this year knowing that the birth of Jesus was the day Immanuel – God with us- came into this world!
