Have you ever found yourself in the place that man at the pool of Bethesda found himself in: powerless to do anything to better his situation? His Healer, Deliverer, Restorer and Peace-Giver approached him and asked whether he was willing to be made well. In an instant, this poor man was staring everything he had ever hoped for in the face. Jesus was right in front of him, willing to answer every prayer. And yet, he responded with, “Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

It can be so easy to get caught up in issues, emotions and incorrect attitudes that we completely miss Jesus, our answer, standing right there in front of us. The helpless man simply had to fix his attention upon Jesus to see every part of his life dramatically change for the good. Jesus was challenging his outlook and attitude regarding his situation. He asked him if he was ready to discard his own perspective for God’s.

Many lose the will to be delivered because they’ve set their expectations on everything else but the One who is willing and able to help them. Fixing our hope on Jesus means to lay aside our perspectives, ideals and desires and take up His own. Choosing to live in Him and for Him is how we live fulfilled. Everything we need is found in knowing Him (2 Peter 1:3).
