In this life there may be times where things suddenly happen and seem to knock the wind out our sails, and turn our world upside down! This is what happened to the ruler of the synagogue in Mark chapter 5. He had rushed to Jesus, convinced He had the power to heal his dying daughter. After Jesus said He would come to his home to heal her, a messenger interrupted them and delivered the dreaded news that it was too late – his daughter was dead. Jesus fully aware of the tremendous blow this devastating news had on the ruler, made a point to help him regain the faith-filled focus he previously had. Even when it appears to be impossible, our faith in God has the ability to overcome every obstacle that stands in the way of us receiving the fulfilment of His promise. We can picture Jesus looking intently into the eyes of that alarmed father, and saying the words that literally snapped him out of despair, “Do not be seized with alarm and struck with fear; only keep on believing.”. Then Jesus went with him to his home and raised his daughter from the dead! Regardless of how impossible it seems – choose to ignore the unbelieving threats, focus your faith on God’s Word and you will see His promise fulfilled!
