Keep on Course

It is believed that the second letter of Peter was written to warn the early believers about the false teachers with corrupt doctrines being filtered into the church. The believers were in danger of being led astray from the purity of the Gospel and falling prey to teachings that would lead them to moral corruption and compromise.

The result would be the shipwrecking of their faith through their consciences been seared by sin. He told them their best defense against this moral decay was the great gift God had given them through the indwelling of His Holy Spirit. Not only were they partakers of the divine nature of God, they had His power working inside them, along with the gifts of the Spirit to sharpen their spiritual senses. This way they could discern between what was truly of God, and what was not.

Today, we face the same threat of false teachers and skewered doctrines that are purposed to subtly weaken our faith and lead us into moral and spiritual compromise. Without the power of the Holy Spirit and His divine nature working inside us, it will be easy to lose perspective of the truth. Keep your spiritual senses alert to the ways of the Spirit, which are always confirmed by the truth of God’s Word. That way you’ll remain true to the faith and won’t be led off course into error.
