Keep the Heat Up!

The Bible continuously urges Believers to never become complacent in their faith, but to always serve the Lord with a fervent heart that is earnest and burning with zeal (Romans 12:11).  It describes the opposite of fervency as being slothful or lacking in zeal.  The problem with being slothful, or having no passion or zeal for something, is that you develop a keen lack of interest for it, and your willingness to pursue, maintain, or even improve it disappears.  Why is this so dangerous concerning the things of the Spirit?  Well, in Jude 1:3 we are told to earnestly contend for the faith – which is the sum of our Christian belief.  The reason we must contend for it, is that there is great opposition to it.  Our enemy, the devil, is bent on destroying our faith in God and His Word because he knows that if our faith is strong and we are full of zeal concerning it, not only is he defenseless against us, his own plans of destruction and corruption on the earth can be thwarted! We do the kingdom of darkness damage when we are burning with zeal for God! The reason Jesus is so offended with the church that is lukewarm, is because there was a time they burnt hot in earnest zeal for Him. They had tasted and seen the goodness and power of His supernatural kingdom – and had allowed themselves to become spiritually complacent and dull concerning the things of the spirit.  They valued the cares of the world above all they could have in Him. They no longer became thrilled with the Word of God and trampled on the price Jesus paid for them to be free and fearsome in the spirit. This is far worse than being spiritually cold out of never knowing Him. Keep the fire for God burning hot inside you – pursue and protect it at all times so you can boldly enforce the devil’s defeat and continue to live a life of spiritual significance and victory!
