The Bible tells us we are living in a world that is under the curse of sin and is dominated by an evil mindset that is in direct rebellion towards God. Before we were born again, we belonged to this way of life and were in bondage to its ways. Ephesians 2:2 says, “… in which you once walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience”. Through the finished work of the cross – we were given a way to be redeemed from that evil curse and have been transferred from its kingdom of darkness into God’s own kingdom of light! We have been given a brand-new way of life! God’s own Spirit – the Holy Spirit – has taken possession of our spirits, making them one with Him! (1 Corinthians 6:17-20; 2 Corinthians 5:17). Now that our inner-man or spirit, has been completely changed and redeemed, we are expected to have that change translate into our souls (mind, will, emotions) too. In other words, since our spirits are just like God’s Spirit, our souls must take on His likeness too. How does that happen? According to 1 Peter 1:22, our souls become purified through obedience to the truth of God’s Word. Romans 12:2 says, “Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you].” Renewing our minds to God’s Word through the help of the Holy Spirit is the only way we are able to have them redeemed to perceive and think as God does, and not the way of a fallen, cursed world. Determine to spend time reading and meditating on God’s Word, trusting the Holy Spirit to cause its truth to influence every thought process, to cleanse every emotion, and bend your will to delight in God’s ways. This way, the same pure faith, wisdom, and power that exists in your spirit-man will translate to your soul, through the power of the Holy Spirit. The evidence that this is taking place will be your sincere love for others, loving them with a pure heart.
