It was prophesied: “A virgin will give birth to the Messiah”! What an extraordinary miracle! Can you imagine the leap of faith this must have been for Mary? The angel of the Lord visited her and declared the plan of salvation for the world would come through her womb!
She had to make the decision of whether she was willing to participate in this plan, or not. She knew full well that showing signs of pregnancy without being married would result in her being shamed and ostracised by her community. She risked being stoned to death because of her perceived sin. What’s more, she didn’t even know the details of the plan. But her response tells us something about Mary. She was content to accept this extraordinary plan with just having God’s Word on it. It was all she needed to make the greatest decision of her life. She had no guarantee of a husband, and she knew the journey ahead was going to be incredibly challenging, but her faith in the character of God gave her all the courage she needed to trust His Word and willingly obey.
This Christmas, keep your thoughts and heart focused on the steadfast, faithful character of your God. Let this build your faith to trust His Word and willingly obey it in all you do. Like He did with Mary, He will take care of every detail, keeping you safe and provided for as you walk out the extraordinary plan He has for you!
