Marked by Obedience

Adam’s disobedience resulted in humanity being under the curse of sin. Human nature from that point on was bent on being carnal.  It’s instincts and impulses would be continuously driven by the unseen force of sin – driving man further and further away from God. Man developed the habit of pleasing himself, instead of pleasing God.  While man mastered that well developed habit of disobedience, Jesus came to walk among us and show us the very opposite way! He displayed what it is to live in complete obedience to God and the results it brings. Luke 2:40 tells us Jesus grew and became strong in spirit and was filled with wisdom, and the grace of God was upon Him.  In verse 52, it says Jesus increased in wisdom, stature and favour with God and man.  We are told in Psalm 45:7 that Jesus hated wickedness and loved righteousness and as a result He was more joyful than any of His companions! That’s not all, Jesus, the One who modelled self-less obedience to His Heavenly Father was called the Prince of peace.  His life here on earth was marked by righteousness, peace, and the joy of the Holy Spirit!  And because He obeyed His Heavenly Father to the utmost, even to death on the cross for our sakes, if we believe on Him – we will receive His righteous nature to replace our unrighteous one. That means, once you and I became born-again, our sinful, carnal nature that was alive to sin and disobedience – died! Our spirits were recreated by God’s Holy Spirit to be just like Jesus, with a nature that delights in being obedient to God. As we meditate on God’s Word, we learn how to live in His ways.  Simple obedience to the Word we read, by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, causes us to increase in moral strength, wisdom, grace, and favour! Our willing obedience to God’s Word is fulfilling the will of God for our lives. The results are a flow of never-ending blessing, too wonderful to fully comprehend! A life of obedience will be marked by righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Ghost!
