Moved by Compassion

The Bible clearly demonstrates how Jesus was moved by compassion for people, and out of His compassion healing, deliverance and provision flowed. He saw a hurting and dying people who were like sheep lost without a good shepherd. They had been targeted by the devil who was intent on stealing, killing and destroying them.  Even though He was the literal fulfilment of what their scriptures foretold – most didn’t recognise Him as their Messiah. But their ignorance and rejection of Him didn’t diminish His compassion towards them. This compassion for people was forged by the deep passion and devotion Jesus had for His Father. It is only passion for God that produces a true compassion for people. Jesus knew the heart of His Father and that fueled every word, attitude, and act of goodness and power that flowed from Him.  His compassion caused Him to willingly exchange His life for those who never knew or recognised Him, because He didn’t want to see them experience an eternity of torment and separation from His Father’s love. This same heart of love is poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit (Romans 5:5). It compels us to reach others with the same compassion Jesus has. In John 15, it speaks of us being vitally connected to Him – the vine. If the vine carries passion for God and compassion for people, then we can expect the same to flow from Him through us to others. Today, take the time to embrace the Father’s love so that you will have His compassion for people and see them transformed by His love and power.
