Self-pity is a dangerous attitude that has absolutely no place in the life of a born-again Believer. While God is near the broken-hearted and comforts the downcast, He does not entertain or respect an attitude of self-pity. Self-pity keeps a person in a state of discouragement and complacency. It keeps God’s people from moving forward and doing what He has instructed them to do. That’s because it’s based on a lie. The moment we became born-again our sorry, self-centered, sin dominated natures died with Jesus on the cross! They simply ceased to exist! The Holy Spirit of God – the Spirit of Jesus Himself – full of glory and power and strength and eternal victory came to reside inside us! If we had a true revelation of this there would be no pity for who we are in Christ! Whenever we face the opportunity to fall into the lie of self-pity, we must confront it immediately with force! Recognise it as the deceptive lie of the devil and cast it out of our minds with deathly force! In this life we will experience hardships and encounter various difficulties and challenges. However, those hardships and challenges should never be a cause for us to fall into the pit of self-pity. Instead, it is an opportunity for us to rise up on the inside as we pray in the Holy Ghost and fill our thoughts with the truth of God’s Word. Then, with our spirits overflowing with supernatural faith and power – we release what God says over every trial and problem and expect to see it be answered! Learn to roll your cares immediately onto the Lord this way and encourage yourself in Him. God loves us, but He does not love self-pity because it is a direct violation of what He has already done for us! God told Jeremiah: “If you repent [and give up this mistaken attitude of despair and self-pity], then I will restore you [to a state of inner peace] …” If we forsake self-pity, He will restore us back to a state of inner peace and victory too!
