No Tug-of-War

According to Romans 8:5, there is an internal tug-of-war between the flesh and the Spirit. Unfortunately, many Christians base their un-godly actions and responses on this internal war between wanting to do what is right, but not having the strength to follow through on it. Paul, however made it clear that this internal struggle is only for those who have chosen to live according to the flesh and have not chosen to deliberately walk according to the leading of the Holy Spirit. When we understand our true identity in Christ, realising that our old, carnal nature was nailed to the cross and that we now have the mind of Christ and the power of His Holy Spirit at work in us to live righteous lives – there simply is no internal struggle!  Romans 8:2 says we have been set free from the power of sin by the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus! We have lost our taste for sin, it has no pull on us, and absolutely no power over us because we live full of and controlled by the Holy Spirit of God!  This is our new existence: Christ living, moving and having His being in us! (Galatians 2:20, Acts 17:2). We make no allowance for the flesh because we have given ourselves over to the leading of the Holy Spirit. We belong exclusively to Him! When Paul tells us that the spirit and the flesh are at war with one another, he emphasises the importance for us to make a deliberate choice for a life following the Holy Spirit’s leading. We cannot live with both the flesh and the Spirit competing for dominance inside us.  We must refuse the one and embrace the other. The Holy Spirit is ready to lead you today! Give Him control over the decisions you make in life. Let Him become your helper and the divine genius who will lead you into all truth!  As you allow Him to take charge, He will make your desires the same as His Own and empower you to walk in a way that is pleasing to God – a life of righteousness, peace and the joy in the Holy Ghost!
