Obedience Brings Blessing

The Bible tells us to honour our parents in the Lord. God desires for children to treat their parents with respect and to heed their instructions. Paul wrote to Timothy saying children should make some return to their parents, “…for this is pleasing in the sight of God”. Choosing to honour and obey our parents, just as Jesus honoured and obeyed His Heavenly Father, provokes the blessing of God over our lives! The Book of Jeremiah shows us how the Rechabites received a perpetual blessing because they heeded the voice of their father. Their father, Jonadab, instructed them to not drink wine or build any house for themselves. For years they obeyed and did what their father instructed.  As a result, they never lacked a man to stand before the Lord (Jeremiah 35:19). Just as the Rechabites were rewarded for their obedience to their father, we will we be rewarded when we obey our Heavenly Father and those He has placed in our lives to guide us. Solomon writes, “Hear, my son, your father’s instruction, and forsake not your mother’s teaching, for they are a graceful garland for your head and pendants for your neck.” Obedience to the Lord brings to safety, security, and honour to our lives. The Bible promises our  days will be long in the land of promise, favour, and supernatural provision, while we honour and obey Him and those He has entrusted to take care of us.
