You have an enemy who, to say the least, despises you and will consistently try to take you out. However, for those who abide in Jesus and have His Word live inside our hearts, no weapon formed against us shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). What’s preventing those fiery darts and destructive plans of the enemy from taking God’s children out? The shield of faith! Romans 10:17 says, “…faith comes by hearing [what is told], and what is heard comes by the preaching [of the message that came from the lips] of Christ (the Messiah Himself).” How does this work?
When we read God’s word, meditate on it, and treasure it as His personal promise and message to us – it gives us hope and peace and builds up our faith. Then, when our circumstances become challenging and the enemy assaults our minds with thoughts of worry or fear, we can turn our attention to the Holy Spirit. He promises to remind us of the appropriate promise we read and treasured in our hearts from His word.
Suddenly, like a shield, that same hope, peace, and faith that Word brought when we read it rises up, strong, from inside our spirits and extinguishes those fiery darts (troublesome thoughts) – preventing them from causing fear to grip our minds! Now the love and faith of God rise up strong and we begin to confess what God’s word says from the conviction of our hearts – setting in motion the fulfilment of His promises instead of the enemy’s plan of destruction!
