Misplaced Trust

In the time the Israelites exited out of Egypt, the Egyptian war horses and chariots were formidable and potent instruments of war. Despite their usefulness and potency in combat, in this Psalm, David reminds his readers that even these magnificent warhorses offer false hope for rescue, if the Lord is not on our side. Of course he was eluding to the Egyptian Calvary that were in hot pursuit after the just-liberated Hebrew slaves. In the natural, those powerful animals would carry their masters with speed and accuracy into certain victory every time. However, this time they were no match to the power of the Israelite God! It would do us well to understand that placing our trust in anyone, or anything other than the Lord for deliverance in battle is futile. We can’t afford to lean on our own understanding to see the victory. While God may give us tools and resources to aid and assist us, our trust must never rest in them. No earthly object or advantage, by itself, can guarantee victory. Our help comes from the Lord! Misplaced trust will only lead to disappointment, but those who choose to trust in the Lord will never be ashamed for doing so!
