Ready When He Returns

There are many in this hour who will have the appearance and form of godliness, but in truth, their hearts are far from God. Titus 1:16 says, “They profess to know God, but in works they deny Him, being abominable, disobedient, and disqualified for every good work.” The bible instructs us to stay clear of those types of people. They are represented by the 5 foolish virgins in Matthew chapter 25. They had the appearance of purity and consecration, yet their hearts of devotion towards the Lord grew cold, and the fire that once burned to please Him, was snuffed out. In the end, they were not ready for His return and were not permitted into the marriage feast. The sobering truth is there are many who say they are Christians, but have no regard to live righteously before the Lord, paying no attention to His word or voice of His Spirit. Jesus instructed us to keep watch and live in a manner of being ready for His return. We are to continuously cultivate a deep, intimate relationship with Him and His word – surrendering every area of our thoughts, attitudes, speech and actions to Him.  The extra oil is representative of the active presence of the Holy Spirit in our lives, where He isn’t confined to dwelling in our spirit-man, but is given access to dominate every area of our souls.  As we prioritise drawing near to the Lord in personal worship and in His word, being careful to listen to His voice and obey Him – the oil of His presence will overflow from within our spirits, keeping us empowered and eager to do His will, so we will be found ready when He returns.
