No matter how distressing the days we are living in become, as a child of God, Jesus has instructed us to not fear. Everything that is happening in the world around us is exactly as the Bible predicted it to be. For the world, things are going to become severely wicked and even unbearable for most, but for the Believer who keeps his faith secured in the Lord and His Word, he will overcome all – triumphantly. This doesn’t mean we won’t be tested by trials or persecution for living righteously. If we live holy lives and stand up against the unrighteousness that is happening in our own nations or societies today – we will be hated. To be silent in the face of wickedness violates what we stand for and grieves the Holy Spirit. In fact, refusing to speak up against evil indicates our consent of it. 2 Peter 2:8 says that during the days of Sodom and Gomorrah, Lot’s soul was tormented by the wickedness of the city: “…for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds…” In Ephesians 6:11 we are told to stand against the devil’s schemes. While we can’t control what happens around us, we most certainly are called to control our response to it by drawing from what God has made available to us – in Christ Jesus! We have His Word, His Name, and His Spirit living on the inside of us – empowering us to know the truth and stand for what is right, boldly and with no compromise, and in love. We must not conform to what society at large dictates the truth to be – Jesus said His Word is truth and it holds true for eternity! So, refuse fear and falsehood and stand strong for what is right – so that you are not swept away with the wicked in these last days.
