Resist the Devil

Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, is truly a great High Priest. When meditating on this scripture, we can see how much love Jesus has for those who follow Him. Satan, our adversary,   prowls around like a lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8).  He searches out believers who are not rooted in the Word, and are not making Jesus the object of their attention, and affection. Jesus prayed to the Father in John 17, that He (the Father) would protect those who follow Him by the power of His Name. Jesus can fully relate to our weakness and the temptations we face because He was tempted in every way we are, and yet didn’t sin (Hebrews 4:15). 1 Corinthians 10:13 tells us that we will not be tempted beyond what we are able to resist, and that with every temptation, He has already prepared a way of escape for us.  Hebrews 4:16 says, “Let us then fearlessly and confidently and boldly draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy [for our failures] and find grace to help in good time for every need [appropriate help and well-timed help, coming just when we need it].”  God’s empowering grace is available to us, to stand strong and resist all temptation to sin.  If we choose to submit to God, to humbly fall at His feet in simple devotion and surrender to Him, He will lift us up, and fill us with His love and power to resist the devil, and see him flee from us (James 4:7-10).
