Surrender Avoids Hypocrisy

Jesus rebuked the lawyers and Pharisees for not practicing what they were preaching. They were laying heavy burdens on people, expecting them to abide by practices and things they themselves were unwilling to do. Knowing full well they fell short of what really pleased God, they criticised and rebuked people for not doing what was right. As children of God our words, attitudes, and actions should line up with what we profess to believe. When we live contrary to the Word and the true nature of God, His name is blasphemed. Paul writes in Romans, “…the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you”. There were believers teaching people to not steal, and yet they were themselves robbing temples. There were believers teaching people to not commit adultery, and yet they were committing adultery themselves. As children of God, we can’t profess to know and love God with our tongues, only to deny Him in our actions. Isaiah describes this as, “…these people draw near to Me with their lips but their hearts are far from Me”. We are supposed to be living epistles, known and read by all men. Our lifestyles and conduct can be one of the greatest ways to reach the lost for Christ. Decide today to surrender your heart, thoughts, attitudes and actions to the Lord, so that you don’t disqualify yourself. Allow people to see Jesus living in and through you, bringing glory to God.
