The Good Fight of Faith

A wonderful characteristic of faith is that it’s not passive by nature; it’s active. Faith is a verb; it speaks of taking action. The Book of James tells us claiming to have faith without putting it into action is futile. Another remarkable characteristic of faith, according to 1 Corinthians 13:2, is it must work by and through love. Love is the substance that empowers faith and makes it useful. So how does this relate to fighting the good fight of faith?

In Greek, the word “fight” speaks of fierce combat with an adversary. So while we know faith in action involves combat, more importantly, it’s the nature of faith that carries its inability to fail. When we operate in the love of God, our hearts and minds are fine-tuned to our Commander-in-Chief, Who is Love. He sees the end from the beginning and everything in between. He teaches us how to be meek, which essentially means to operate in great power under His control.

So…knowing full well we operate under His authority, backed by the power of Heaven, we act in love towards people and come forcefully against our real enemy – principalities and powers of darkness. A defeated foe, in a battle that has already been won!
