Faith, hope and love – these will remain, but the greatest of these, is love (1 Corinthians 13:13). We are taught that whatever we do, every task performed and endeavour accomplished, must be done in faith, because without faith we cannot please God. Naturally, we would want to put faith at the top of the list of things to increase in our lives. And to increase faith, we must increase our time in God’s Word (Romans 10:17). Then, we’re taught that faith without works is dead – meaning we mustn’t just hear the Word; we must follow faith through and do what the word says. This is certainly within our reach because faith actually energizes us to do God’s will.
It seems we have a winning formula for success – faith, faith, faith! However, there is a vital truth that cannot be ignored, and must be applied to this formula for success. Without it, all our efforts – no matter how noble – will be of no real worth. It is the chief and primary component of our spiritual life – God’s love in us. God’s love must become the dominating force in everything we think, say, and do. Unless it is motivating everything, what we do is done in vain. Even faith is futile, unless it’s motivated by the love of God in us (1 Corinthians 13:2, Galatians 5:6). While faith energizes our work for God, and hope keeps us in a place of joyful expectation – God’s love is what makes it all viable and eternally significant.
Continuously open your heart to the Holy Spirit, yielding to God’s love being poured out (Romans 5:5). This love activates the life and power faith needs to generate success.
